Organisational Psychology
Case Study 1 – Organisational Psychology

Supporting Cultural Integration Following a Major Acquisition

Client Sector

Global Security and Facilities Management Organisation (100,000+ employees)

The Challenge

Following a major corporate acquisition, a large international security organisation faced the challenge of integrating employees from different business cultures, leadership styles and operational practices.

Senior leaders recognised that successful integration required more than structural change. There was a need to understand employee attitudes, organisational culture, leadership behaviours and the psychological factors influencing engagement and performance during a period of significant uncertainty.

Our Approach

Psylutions was commissioned to design and deliver a large-scale organisational psychology programme across multiple business units.

Using evidence-based psychological methodologies, we conducted organisational diagnostics, employee research, leadership assessments and culture analysis. Findings were translated into practical recommendations that enabled leaders to better understand workforce concerns, improve communication and support cultural alignment throughout the integration process.

Our role combined scientific rigour with practical business application, ensuring that organisational psychology insights could be used directly to support decision-making.

The Outcome

The project provided senior leaders with a clear understanding of the psychological and cultural factors influencing organisational performance during a period of change.

The work supported more effective integration planning, strengthened leadership understanding of workforce dynamics and demonstrated how psychological evidence can be used to support complex organisational transformation.

Case Study 2 – HR Business Partnering & Advisory

Providing Strategic HR Leadership to Support National and International Growth

Client Sector

Specialist Engineering and Inspection Services Company (SME operating nationally and internationally)

The Challenge

A growing engineering and inspection business operating across the UK and international markets required strategic HR support to help sustain growth, strengthen management capability and professionalise people processes.

The business had developed strong technical expertise and commercial success, but recognised that continued growth required more structured people management, workforce planning and leadership support.

Our Approach

Psylutions worked directly with the Managing Director and senior leadership team, acting as an outsourced HR Business Partner.

Our involvement extended beyond traditional HR support. We provided strategic advice on workforce planning, organisational development, employee relations, policy development, recruitment, leadership support and operational HR matters.

By becoming a trusted adviser to the leadership team, we ensured that people decisions aligned with broader business objectives while remaining practical and commercially focused.

The Outcome

The organisation benefited from senior-level HR expertise without the need to establish an internal HR department.

The arrangement provided consistency, improved management confidence and ensured that workforce decisions supported both operational performance and long-term business growth.

Case Study 3 – Employee Assistance & Wellbeing Services

Managing Organisational Change Through a Comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme

Client Sector

Large County Council (Public Sector)

The Challenge

A major local authority was implementing significant organisational change that affected employees across multiple departments and service areas.

Leaders recognised that uncertainty, organisational restructuring and changing working practices could have a substantial impact on employee wellbeing, engagement and performance.

The organisation required an Employee Assistance Programme capable of supporting employees while also providing management with insight into emerging workforce issues.

Our Approach

Psylutions designed, implemented and managed a comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme tailored to the organisation’s needs.

The service combined counselling provision, psychological support, management consultation, wellbeing interventions and organisational reporting. Working closely with senior stakeholders, we ensured that employee wellbeing support aligned with wider organisational objectives.

The programme was designed not only to support individuals but also to identify trends, risks and opportunities that could inform organisational decision-making.

The Outcome

The programme provided employees with access to timely and professional support throughout a period of significant organisational change.

Senior leaders gained valuable insight into workforce wellbeing issues, enabling proactive management of risks and helping to maintain organisational resilience during a challenging transition period.

Case Study 4 – Management & Leadership Development

Building Leadership Capability to Support Rapid Business Growth

Client Sector

Business Process Outsourcing Provider to the Recruitment Industry

The Challenge

A rapidly expanding business process outsourcing company had achieved significant commercial success through innovation and entrepreneurial leadership.

As the organisation grew, the Managing Director recognised that management structures, leadership capability and people processes had not developed at the same pace as the business itself.

The challenge was to strengthen leadership capability while preserving the entrepreneurial culture that had driven growth.

Our Approach

Initially engaged to improve leadership and management performance, Psylutions conducted a comprehensive review of organisational structures, management practices and workforce challenges.

The scope of the work expanded significantly, ultimately leading to the creation of a senior HR leadership role within the organisation.

Working directly with the Managing Director and senior leadership team, we introduced management development initiatives, strengthened leadership accountability, improved organisational processes and provided strategic people leadership during a critical period of growth.

The Outcome

The organisation benefited from stronger leadership capability, improved management practices and greater alignment between business strategy and people management.

The work demonstrated how effective leadership development often requires more than training alone, combining strategic advice, organisational development and practical implementation.

Case Study 5 – Complex Workforce Challenges

Developing a Novel Psychological Framework for a High-Profile Criminal Investigation

Client Sector

Police Safeguarding and Major Investigation Environment

The Challenge

Psylutions was commissioned by a specialist police safeguarding unit to provide psychological analysis in an exceptionally sensitive and emotionally charged investigation involving severe injuries, conflicting witness accounts and extensive video evidence.

The investigation presented a unique challenge. Traditional interview review techniques were insufficient to address the complexity of the material, which included multiple witness interviews, behavioural observations, video recordings and competing narratives.

Investigators required an independent, evidence-based assessment capable of identifying patterns within the available material and helping to evaluate the reliability and consistency of key accounts.

The findings also needed to be robust enough to withstand scrutiny within the criminal justice process.

Our Approach

Rather than relying on a single established technique, Psylutions designed a bespoke analytical framework specifically for the investigation.

Drawing on expertise in psychology, behavioural analysis and qualitative research methodologies, we integrated multiple evidence-based approaches, including behavioural and video analysis, conversation analysis, discursive psychology, discourse analysis and structured qualitative research techniques.

The methodology was developed to identify recurring behavioural patterns, linguistic structures, inconsistencies, emotional responses and interaction dynamics across large volumes of interview and video material.

Particular attention was paid to controlling analyst bias, maintaining methodological transparency and ensuring that all conclusions were grounded in observable evidence.

The Outcome

The resulting reports provided investigators with a detailed psychological interpretation of the available evidence, highlighting behavioural and linguistic patterns that would not have been apparent through conventional investigative review alone.

The work demonstrated how advanced psychological methods can be applied to complex legal and safeguarding environments, producing findings capable of informing investigative decision-making and supporting evidential processes.

Most importantly, the project showcased Psylutions’ ability to create innovative solutions where no existing framework exists, combining scientific rigour with practical application in circumstances where accuracy, objectivity and professional judgement are critical.

Case Study 6 – Psychotherapy & Counselling

Developing Culturally Responsive Mental Health Assessment Practice

Client Sector

Mental Health, Counselling and Healthcare Professionals

The Challenge

Mental health professionals increasingly work with clients from diverse cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds. However, many practitioners receive limited training on how culture, identity, migration experiences and family systems can influence assessment, engagement and therapeutic outcomes.

This can create barriers to effective communication, reduce engagement with services and impact the quality of clinical assessment and intervention.

Psylutions identified a need for practical, evidence-based guidance that would help clinicians conduct culturally informed assessments while maintaining professional and clinical rigour.

Our Approach

Drawing on doctoral research undertaken by Dr Uzma Durrani, together with extensive experience across NHS, higher education and community mental health settings, Psylutions developed the B-Me Assessments Programme.

The programme was designed to bridge the gap between multicultural theory and everyday clinical practice by providing mental health professionals with practical tools and frameworks that could be applied immediately within their work.

Participants explored:

  • Culturally informed assessment techniques

  • The influence of culture, ethnicity and identity on therapeutic relationships

  • Culturally appropriate communication strategies

  • Recognition of bias and assumptions within assessment processes

  • Practical approaches to engaging diverse communities

The programme was independently accredited through the Royal College of Nursing Accreditation Unit and delivered to counsellors, psychotherapists, nurses and other mental health professionals.

The Outcome

The programme enabled practitioners to develop greater confidence and competence when working with culturally diverse populations.

Participants were able to apply culturally informed assessment principles within a range of clinical settings, strengthen therapeutic engagement, improve communication and enhance the accessibility of services for diverse communities.

The programme demonstrated how evidence-based training and professional development can strengthen clinical practice while supporting more inclusive and culturally responsive mental health services.
